Not only are microfiber pads excellent at cleaning all sorts of surfaces, but they also have several additional benefits. And one of the main ones is that they can be reused as long as you properly clean them. That’s right, microfiber is reusable, and for quite a long time. And the best thing is that cleaning microfiber mops is very easy, once you know how it’s done. Which is what we’re here for. About Microfiber Pads

Before we start washing the microfiber pads, let’s first discuss what they actually are and how they work. Unlike the more traditional mop that uses cotton, microfiber mop uses synthetic materials. Hence the name, obviously. Ever since microfiber started being massively available, cleaning product manufacturers started using it thanks to its numerous benefits over cotton. Compared to cotton, microfiber is much lighter and can hold up to 7 times its weight in water. Even better, it actually picks up dust and dirt particles when you use it for cleaning. That way you are properly removing gunk from your floors instead of just spreading it around. This is due to the fact that microfiber’s electrostatic properties ensure that dust will be attracted to the cloth. You can see why microfiber mops are the preferred choice of many professionals.

However, such delicate material requires care, especially when cleaning it. So let’s take a look at how that’s actually done

Washing Microfiber Pads In The Washing Machine

The best and easiest way of making sure your microfiber stay clean for a long time is to wash them in your washer. The whole process is very easy and you shouldn’t be having any problems keeping your pads clean in the future.

The first thing you need to pay attention to is to use an adequate detergent. Most manufacturers will provide you with detailed instructions regarding this, but generally, the following applies. Make sure to use a gentle detergent, whether it is liquid or powder. Both will work, as long as they aren’t self-softening or soap based. They also shouldn’t be oily. If you can get your hands on some type of unscented, natural one, that’d be even better. Be sure NOT to use fabric softeners when washing your microfiber pads, or any type of microfiber cloth for that matter. Doing this results in clogged pores of your mop pad, and thus makes it much harder for it to pick up as much dirt and dust.

So just remember, gentle detergent and no softeners. Before we proceed, make sure that you check out how clogged the pad actually is. If there are any large residues left, simply use a brush to break it up a little bit, to help your washer clean them out properly.

Once that’s done, put the pad(s) in your washing machine and be sure to use hot water for the washing. This is because hot water will enable the fiber to release all the nasty stuff that’s stored between the fibers. Of course, don’t forget to add a bit of your preferred detergent.

Use medium speed setting (might be called something like ‘regular’ or ‘normal’ on your washer) so that your pads are properly cleaned. Now just let your washer to the job and sanitize all your pads.

Drying Microfiber Pads

Once the washer has completed its purpose, take the pads out and choose how do you want them to dry. The best option is air drying, so if that’s a possibility, you should always choose it. Good thing is that microfiber dries very quickly, so the process won’t take too long. Just hang them somewhere where there’s fresh air, and let them dry. Why is this the preferable option? Well, because drying machines could damage the cloth if not used properly. So to keep yourself at ease, just air dry your microfiber pads.

If you still want to dry your pads in a machine, be careful when choosing the settings. Don’t use a high temperature (in fact, just choose the lowest heating option)! This is very important. Once again, such high temperatures could damage your pads, so be sure to double check.

Storing Your Reusable Microfiber Pads

This should be pretty obvious, but let me state it nonetheless. Be sure to store all of your microfiber materials in a dry, clean spot. As already mentioned, it picks up even the smallest particles of dust and dirt, so you don’t want to clog the fibers before you’ve even started cleaning. A properly cleaned cabinet should work wonderfully.

And that’s about everything there is to know about washing your reusable microfiber mop pads. To summarize, here’s what you need to pay attention to:

          1.Use a gentle detergent

2.Never use a fabric softener while washing microfiber

3.Air drying is the best option, and it’s very fast

4.If machine drying, choose a low temperature

5.Store your pads in a clean cabinet
